Current Vacancies on Boards, Committees and Commissions

The City of Durham is seeking interested citizens to serve on the following Boards:

  • Firefighter’s Relief Fund Board of Trustees (Deadline to apply – February 16, 2018)
  • Passenger Vehicle For Hire Commission (Deadline to apply - February 16, 2018)
  • Durham City-County Appearance Commission (Deadline to apply – March 5, 2018)

Deadlines for receiving applications is 5:00 p.m. on the above dates

To apply, visit the city’s web site www.durhamnc.gov and click on Government/Boards, Committees and Commissions.

Applications may also be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office located on the second floor in City Hall at 101 City Hall Plaza from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Community Health Assessment Survey is now available online in English and Spanish. The purpose of the survey is for Durham County residents to select what they think are the top 5 health priorities for 2018-2021 and share how they want the priorities addressed. We’ll use the results of the survey to help select Partnership committees for the next three years and develop action plans.

Durham YouthWork Internship Program Now Seeking Applicants

Hourly Rates Range from $7.25 to $12; Job Expo Set for March 3 & Applications Now Accepted Until March 18

Durham youth, ages 14-24, who want to explore a career, earn money, and gain valuable work experience can now apply to the 2018 Durham YouthWork Internship Program.

Approximately 150 paid summer internship opportunities are available with the City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Public Works Department, Neighborhood Improvement Services Department, Durham Parks and Recreation, and others. Additional partners providing summer employment opportunities include Durham County Government, Durham Public Schools (DPS), Durham Technical Community College, North Carolina Central University, local businesses, and non-profit organizations.

Durham Hosts E-Waste Recycling & Paper Shredding Event

DURHAM, N.C. – Durham residents looking for an easy and free way to recycle electronic waste (e-waste) and shred confidential documents should mark their calendars to attend this rescheduled City of Durham event next month.

Hosted by the City’s Solid Waste Management Department, the E-Waste Recycling and Paper Shredding event will now be on Saturday, February 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Durham County Memorial Stadium on the home side parking lot, located at 750 Stadium Dr. Staff will be on hand to assist with unloading old electronics and paper.
