Autism Art class

This 4-week project was funded through the Neighborhood Matching Grant Program, which funds projects for residents who want to work together around an issue in their neighborhood.
The motto for the art therapy classes, El Autismo y El Arte No Es Un Mundo Aparte (Autism and Art Are Not A World Apart), aimed to create awareness and inclusion for Hispanic families with autistic youth since there are limited programs for young people with autism in the Latino Community.
Community leaders who led this program hope this effort encourages organizations to consider funding more summer activities for autistic youth.
The finished artwork from these classes was displayed on July 25 at the Main Durham County Library and will be on exhibition for two weeks.
