Neighborhood Matching Grants: Applications Open!

Looking to bring your neighborhood together? Have ideas for physical improvement, training, or events in your community? Durham Neighborhood Improvement Services' Neighborhood Matching Grant Program is now open for applications! Each applicant may request up to $2,500 in matching funds. The deadline is August 20. 

 

Our Community Stories: Algonquin Club

Our Community Stories are conversations with recent and longtime residents of predominately Black and African American communities in Durham. This month highlights Algonquin Club, featuring Wanda Garrett, Nathan Garrett, H. Mickey Michaux Jr., Eddie Davis, and Dr. E. Victor Maafo as speakers. RSVP for the Zoom session on Friday, July 30 at noon. Don't forget past recordings are available

Visit the Forever Home, Durham website to see developments on the $160 million affordable housing program. 

 

Welcome Baby Clothing and Diaper Giveaway

Baby clothing and diapers: Welcome Baby is hosting a contactless pick-up giveaway. Sizes are based on availability, no appointment needed. Bring photo ID, proof of Durham address, Medicaid card/birth certification of children under 5. Pick up (masks required) is on Fridays (July 23rd and 30th) from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 721 Foster Street. Nonprofits - Support Cultural and Arts Festivals

The City’s Cultural and Public Art Program is now seeking proposals to support new or existing cultural and arts festivals and special events. Read details and submit proposal packets by August 9.

 

Public Art for New Parking Deck

The new parking deck at East Main Street on the side facing Queen Street will be installed with new public art. Help the artist design something great by participating in the survey by Aug 9! 

 

COVID-19 Shots Info

Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) is modifying their vaccination clinic hours starting Aug. 2 to be open Monday-Wednesday for appointments and walk-ins. See upcoming hour changes and details. Events will continue for community vaccinations on Thursdays, Fridays, and weekends. See upcoming events. Vaccines are available for anyone 12 and older, regardless of insurance or documentation.

 

Library Reopened + Events

The Main Library at 300 N Roxboro St. reopened July 20! Lots of upcoming events including bilingual Spanish/English Zoom events, fiction groups, book club meetings, family fun, and more. Check out all upcoming events
