Durham Cultural and Public Arts Program Pre-Qualified Artists Registry Now Open for Submissions

March 11 Submission Deadline

The City of Durham Cultural and Public Arts Program now invites artists and artist teams to submit portfolios to be selected to join the City of Durham Pre-Qualified Artists Registry.

This registry will serve as a resource for the selection of artist and artist teams to create City cultural and public art projects. Access to a pre-determined network of qualified professional artists strengthens and streamlines the process and allows for greater capacity building within the arts community.

‘A Clean Water Habitat’ Public Art Now Adorns South Ellerbe Stormwater Restoration Project

Students from Three Durham Schools Worked to Beautify Construction Fence at Future Wetlands

Passersby will now notice new public art adorning the construction fencing around the South Ellerbe Stormwater Restoration project thanks to the efforts of local teachers and students from three schools in Durham.

The City’s Public Works Department partnered with artist-educator Lee Moore Crawford to produce artwork by local students for the project. The students answered the question, “Who will show up in this wetland restoration project?” with colorful images of birds, turtles, fish, and native plants. Crawford reproduced the images on banners that she and the students displayed earlier this week on the project’s construction fence along 808 W. Trinity Ave.

Co-hosted by EUAR and End Poverty Durham, the 2019 Faith Summit is a convening to share best practices in anti-racism and anti-poverty work, as well as increase interfaith collaboration towards dismantling racism and ending poverty in our community.
Participants will:
1. Gain awareness and understanding of racism as the root cause of child poverty.
2. Discover resources/services already happening in Durham to reduce racism and child poverty.
3. Create collaborative steps for congregations and organizations to work together to reduce racism and child poverty in Durham.

City Hall On The Go serves residents where they live, work, and play. It is a unique mobile platform that will serve, share, and connect residents with the resources throughout the City of Durham. City Hall on the Go is designed to reach out to   remote communities within the city, to increase awareness of City services.

Durham Seeks Public Art Submissions for Morreene Road Park

February 28 Submission Deadline

DURHAM, N.C. – Local and regional artists are invited to apply for a new public art project to be displayed as part of the upcoming renovations at Morreene Road Park.

The City of Durham General Services Department, Durham Parks and Recreation, and the Public Art Committee are now seeking professional artists or artist teams to submit qualifications to design, fabricate, and install a signature, permanent piece of public art at Morreene Road Park.

Expanding Housing Choice Project Update

The Durham City-County Planning Department has received, and continues to receive, numerous comments regarding the set of proposed changes to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) known as the “Expanding Housing Choice” initiative or “EHC.” EHC is intended to create additional housing opportunities in the highest demand neighborhoods in Durham, while preserving the character and quality of these neighborhoods. This should help stabilize housing prices and allow for greater housing access in high-opportunity neighborhoods.
