National Dog Bite Prevention Week
The United States Postal Service is launching a dog bite awareness campaign this month– it is an annual event.
Dog bites present a very serious threat to our state’s mail carriers and our residents as well. We are out and about daily in the communities that you represent, and a loose dog is a threat to the community as well as our carriers. We train our carriers to report unrestrained and threatening dogs to Animal Control and other venues to help keep our community safe. We also encourage our offices to invite Animal Control officers and law enforcement canine units in to talk to our carriers about dog safety and helping to keep the community safe.
We are your constituents. We are your friends, family, and neighbors. The United States Postal Service is 10,000+ employees strong in North Carolina. We need your help to get the word out. We would love to have a decree issued by your office designating April 8-14, 2018, as Dog Bite Prevention Awareness Week.
Mail carriers are the eyes and ears for our communities and they should feel safe in completing their mission. Can you help us get the word out as well? Attached is our Dog Bite Prevention card that is being mailed out across the state.
