City Hall on the Go Citizenship & Government April 2018

On Monday, April 16th, 2018 the City Manager, Thomas Bonfield, spoke to approximately 60 students at YE Smith Elementary School about the many ways the City of Durham has an impact on their life, from the Police Department to the tap water they drink.   The students were full of questions and even the teachers stated that they learned more about what City Government does!

In addition, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, Brian Smith of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development visited 15 students at Durham Nativity School where he focused on the City’s role in Public Art and the importance of community engagement in these projects.  The students were then able to develop their own ideas for city murals!

City Hall on the Go Citizenship and Government outdoor class is designed to enlighten students about civic pride, government and inspire them to become active members in their community.  Students are relaxed outside of the normal classroom and encouraged to ask questions of the presenter’s personal and professional experiences and why they became involved in government.
